Job Description

The Chemistry and Nanoscience Center is looking for a Postdoctoral researcher to aid in the next generation of solar fuel system development using photo/electrocatalysis for NH3 and H2 generation. The successful applicant will have expertise in photoelectrochemical and electrochemical catalysis and probing mechanistic pathways for catalytic reactions.  This project will be focused on the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) using 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs).  The position will involve synthesis and manipulation of 2D transition metal dichalcogenides for photo/electrocatalysis.  Synthesis of 2D layers via top down (mechanical, surfactant, and chemical exfoliation) and bottom up (chemical vapor deposition and hydrothermal synthesis) methods will be leveraged within the postdoctoral research. Doping, functionalization, defect engineering, plasmonic interactions, and engineered/dynamically generated strain will be needed to tune optoelectronic and catalysis properties.  The successful candidate will utilize these experimental design tools to create 2D material systems that are catalytically active for HER, NRR, etc. and will study their optoelectronic properties using a variety of characterization techniques.  Therefore, the successful candidate should have experience in a variety of characterization techniques such as photo/electrochemistry, Confocal Raman/photoluminescence spectroscopy and microscopy, atomic force microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, transient absorption, etc.  Additionally, the successful applicant should have expertise in data analysis, experimental design, and writing of manuscripts.  The successful applicant will have experience working in a diverse team of material scientists, chemists, and spectroscopists to probe and understand surfaces and interfaces of newly developed chemistries and architectures. PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
